# What is Plutum?

Please note, most of the information on this sheet is also found on the quick glance sheet (available on our GitHub).

## Our goals

Our goal is to bridge the "final gap" between the physical world and the digital world through the use of blockchain technology and NFC chips.

We plan to revolutionise the way we interact with our buyers, sellers, makers, and owner every day by providing a more trustworthy, transparent, and secure system for transactions.

## What is PLTM and how is it different from Plutum?

PLTM is an ERC-20 governance token that uses liquid democracy to allow token holders to vote on decisions that will determine the future of Plutum. Plutum itself is a protocol, whereas PLTM is the governance token that governs Plutum Protocol.

## Who can use Plutum?

Anyone will be able to use Plutum with our open-source wallet. We will offer two wallets we will develop, each with different use cases - Plutum Aurum and Plutum Osiris. In addition, we will provide developers who wish to develop on Plutum with the tools necessary to develop a wallet independently, allowing anyone to develop their own wallet without having to pay for licensing/other fees.

## What are some use cases for Plutum?

Plutum has a use case in every transaction that occurs with a value greater than the NFC chip itself. See some examples:<br>

## Where is Plutum going?

In the future, we have some key goals we wish to achieve, and a timeline that can be viewed on our GitHub and our website. To summarise, some of the most important goals are listed below:<br>

* PLTM token launch with full liquid democracy functionality
* Mainnet launch of Plutum services
* Launch of Plutum Osiris and Plutum Aurum
* Development of a native Plutum chain or L2 solution for another blockchain (likely Ethereum), in addition to a multi-chain bridge allowing for PNFTs to be transacted between various chains

# What is PLTM?

## PLTM, our governance token

Plutum token (PLTM) is the governance token of Plutum, and it uses liquid democracy to allow holders to vote for how PLTM will be governed. PLTM will be on Ethereum chain, and it will be an ERC-20 token. It has no utility for Plutum - it's just a governance token, similar to other governance tokens such as MKR.

Plutum token is called Plutum as well - that's why we use PLTM to differentiate it from the Plutum protocol.

## What is liquid democracy?

Liquid democracy is a system of voting that allows people to delegate their vote to other people. Proposals are directly voted on by holders, or votes can be delegated to other people. Here's a diagram of one example vote:

![In this vote, you can see who delegated and who cast votes.](https://222277513-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-MWVVG_ZtMeWZuKZsuBc%2F-M_vSGKyW7PmIx8dhAb-%2F-Ma-5vFuEJYACKGz1y2v%2FLiquid%20democracy.png?alt=media\&token=1be77d15-5c49-4834-979f-5b16768a3efe)

Liquid democracy allows people who are more educated on certain issues to vote on the issues they're educated on, and allow others to vote for them on issues they're not as educated on. We believe that liquid democracy will also benefit holders who aren't as active in the management of PLTM, who might not otherwise be able to vote on as many proposals as they might like to.

No minimum amount of PLTM is needed to cast your vote - each and every person has a say and can cast their vote themselves, or delegate it.

## How does the governance fund work?

As part of Plutum's token distribution, a special fund called the Mercury Fund was created. This fund is a group of wallets that hold PLTM, which can be spent through proposals voted on by token holders. Unlike the Plutum Foundation funds, which can also be spent through proposals, but have limitations, the Mercury Fund is completely unlimited and has no holds on how funds can be spent.

The intent of the Mercury Fund is for funds to be spent for community purposes, or as invests in projects that PLTM holders support.

Anyone can create a proposal, and formally submit it through our submission system. Then, the submission will be voted on in a given time frame by PLTM holders. If approved, the funds will be delegated and given. If not approved, the funds will remain in the Mercury Fund.

# What are the Plutum services?

## Plutum Core

Plutum Core is our main service that enables the transaction and creation of physical non-fungible tokens (PNFTs).

Plutum Core uses our applications, such as Osiris, for functionality. In addition, Plutum Core allows for anyone to create tokens that conform to our protocol and can be transacted through our technology.

## Plutum Applications

Plutum Foundation also provides a series of four applications that enable both Plutum Core and PLTM in functionality.

### Osiris

Osiris is a full-fledged mobile wallet that will use built-in NFC functionality on phones and devices. It will not be available on devices that do not have a built-in NFC reader.

Osiris will also have the capability to be modified to be a smaller piece in a larger system. One example could be distribution platforms authorizing devices to read and transaction certain PNFTs as they make their way through the supply chain.

Finally, Osiris will also have a wallet for PLTM that will allow voting on proposals and vote delegating from within the app.

### Osiris Web

Osiris Web will be a web wallet with NFC functionality through an external reader to transact PNFTs.

Osiris Web will also hold PLTM and have full liquid democractic functionality from within the app, and will work in conjuction with Athena.

### Asterion

Asterion is an institution and business focused fork of Osiris that will make it easier for businesses and shops to adopt PNFTs through minor enhancements.

We chose to fork Asterion from Aurum for businesses as we wished to maintain Orisis's lightweight nature, and if we offered many of the features that we will offer in Asterion, Osiris would no longer be a lightweight wallet.

### Athena

Athena is the home for PLTM that enables liquid democracy. It contains multiple parts - first, the token contract (PLTM), in addition to Athena Portal, which allows interaction through the token contract.

## Plutum Peripheral

Periphal services and applications will be developed by Plutum over time as more features are launched and functionality of PNFTs increases.

Should these services or applications become core to Plutum, they will be moved to Plutum Core and enjoy the increased support that Plutum Core applications are given.

## A note on open source

Plutum will make all of our services and applications open source, and anyone will be allowed to fork our code and develop their own applications off of our code.

In addition, we will provide a set of tools and framework for anyone to code a PNFT and PLTM wallet from the ground up.

This will allow companies and organisation to build their own wallets to be customised to their needs, as opposed to having to use the wallet we develop.

# Quick-start guide

## Where to get started

First, download our mobile wallet Osiris. Osiris is the easiest gateway to get started with the Plutum ecosystem. Then, you'll need an NFC tag of some type. The easiest way to get ahold of NFC tags is through Plutum's NFC tag distribution program, in which anyone can get free tags just by submitting a form. The form is located here: ~~***insertlink.com***~~.

If you want NFC tags in bulk, purchase NTAG-215 specification tags from a reputable provider. We reccomend the following providers on Amazon:

* ~~***insertlink.com***~~.
* ~~***insertlink.com***~~.

At the moment, Plutum Protocol exclusively works with NTAG-215. We are working on expanding the selection of tags Plutum can use.

### Creating your first PNFT

Creating your first PNFT with Osiris is simple. We'll walk you through the steps!

1. On Osiris, drag down and select the "Create" option.&#x20;
2. Hold your device up to the tag where the NFC reader is, and your device should automatically detect the NFC tag.&#x20;
3. Attach a name and any photo you wish. Photos will be hosted through Plutum, and a link to them will be provided in the PNFT.&#x20;
4. When your device prompts, rescan the NFC tag.
5. Once the data is written to the NFC tag, your NFT will be submitted to the blockchain as an ERC-721 contract.
6. Once the ERC-721 contract is deployed, your PNFT has been created!

### Transacting your first PNFT

Osiris makes the transaction of PNFTs very easy. We'll start with receiving, and then sending.

#### To receive

1. On Osiris, drag down and select "Receive."
2. When prompted, the sender will scan the NFC chip.
3. Following the sender, the receiver will scan the NFC chip.
4. The transaction will be submitted to the blockchain.
5. Once complete, the PNFT will change hands.

#### To send

1. On Osiris, select the PNFT you wish to transact.
2. Click the send icon - a small arrow pointing upwards.
3. Click "send."
4. When prompted, scan the NFC chip.
5. Following the sender scanning the NFC chip, the receiver will scan the NFC chip.
6. The transaction will be submitted to the blockchain.
7. Once complete, the PNFT will change hands.

## What about PLTM?

If you wish to purchase PLTM, you can purchase it on the following exchanges:

* ~~***insertlink.com***~~.
* ~~***insertlink.com***~~.
* ~~***insertlink.com***~~.

You can also purchase PLTM on Uniswap and Quickswap.

## Curious about governance?

Visit the [Athena Portal](https://athena.plutum.org), and explore our governance functionality. Athena offers PLTM token holders the ability to vote and create proposals.

If you have more questions on Athena, check [our article on the Athena Portal](/athena/athena-portal).

# Athena Portal

## How to use Athena Portal

Athena Portal is a consumer facing application developed by Plutum Foundation that allows for interaction with the voting and liquid democratic features of PLTM.

The Portal has four fundamental capabilities:

* creation of proposals
* deposit for new proposals
* voting on proposals
* delegation of votes

In this guide, we'll explain what each of them are and how to use them.

### Creation of proposals

If you wish to create a proposal, the process is simple.

Begin by clicking the "Vote" button on the panel to the left. At the bottom, you should see a heading titled "Create or search for a proposal". If you look below the heading, you can find a button titled "Create proposal". Click the button and you will be taken to the create proposal page.

Once on the page, you are required to provide your proposal with details such as a title, proposal type, and body text.

Favoured proposals normally have a short, straight-forward title with little to misinterpret. In addition, favoured proposals also consistently have an accurate tag, and descriptive body text that breaks down how exactly the proposal will work and what your proposal intends to change.

### Deposit

Before a proposal can go to the voting stage, it has to be shown that there is sufficient interest in your proposal. This is to prevent proposal spam and ensure proposals are of quality. Once you create a proposal, all of your votes, both delegated and owned, go to deposit.

Once a proposal reaches the deposit limit of 10000 votes, all deposited votes automatically become "Yes" votes in favour of the proposal.

### Voting

Voting is the most fundamental and basic feature of Athena. If you have no delegated your vote, voting is simple. To vote, just click on a proposal and click the button at the top right that says vote.

When voting on a proposal, you have three choices: yes, no, or abstain. Yes votes in favour of passing the proposal, no votes against the proposal, and abstain removes your votes from the count pool. "Uncast" votes exist as a fourth state and like abstain votes, aren't counted for yes or no, but unlike abstain votes, remain in the count pool.

The count pool is the total number of eligible votes, and can be counted in two ways:

$$
vote\_{total} - vote\_{abstain} = vote\_{pool}
$$

$$
vote\_{for}+vote\_{against}+vote\_{uncast} = vote\_{pool}
$$

Once you make a choice on how you wish to vote, you will cast all of your votes. You can cast your votes exclusively for one choice; if you had 1000 votes, both owned and delegated, you can cast all 1000 in only one direction.

If your votes are delegated and the address you delegated to has already voted, the choice you voted by inheritance will be displayed as muted and unclickable.

If your votes are delegated and the address you delegated to has already voted, the button will say "Vote", but will be displayed as muted and unclickable.

If you previously delegated your votes during a voting period before undelegating them and the address you delegated to had already voted, your votes are inherited as being cast in one direction. However, you may change your vote by hovering over the button, after which all the options will appear and you are free to cast your vote as you wish.

If you already cast your vote but you wish to change your vote, simply hover over the button, after which all the options will appear and you are free to cast your vote as you wish, even in a different direction.

For a proposal to pass, at least 20% of votes from more than 10 addresses must vote in favour, with fewer than 20% of votes for no. Abstain votes are removed from the total vote count.

# Mercury Fund

## What exactly is Mercury?

Mercury is what we call our "governance fund". There are certain allocations of funds (stored in PLTM and various other assets) that are open to governance input. One example of these funds are the Plutum Foundation funds. However, while input is taken through governance, Foundation funds are spent at the discretion of the Foundation.

On the other hand, the Mercury Fund has no oversight body beyond the governance protocols built into PLTM. Spending is solely at the discretion of PLTM token holders. The intention of Mercury is to hold funds "in trust" for all token holders, and to be used for investment into the Plutum ecosystem.

### Are Mercury funds accessible to PLTM token holders?

While Mercury funds are held "in trust" for each token holder, these funds cannot be withdrawn. Mercury may pay a percentage of relative gains back to token holders in proportion to stake on the day of those relative gains occurring.

### How do I propose a Mercury investment?

Check [Athena Portal](/athena/athena-portal#creation-of-proposals). A Mercury Fund proposal follows the same format as all other proposals, and is specified as a Mercury proposal in the selection of proposal type.

### How do I view the progress of Mercury?

The Mercury Dashboard is available on the Athena Portal, where it displays all active investements and proposals. Navigate to the Athena Portal, then select "Mercury" among the options on the left navigational bar.
